4th Of July Guide to Miami

I’ve always thought the 4th of July was a weird event in Miami.  Nobody from here is really from the USA!  I mean, it’s great that so many Brazilians, Cubans, Venezuelans, Colombians, Argentinians, etc have adopted the United States as their new heritage, but it’s sort of odd celebrating Independance Day with people who really care more about the special day of their country at a much more special level.

That said, there are a number of things you can do in Miami during the 4th.  Here are a few that come to mind:

  • Ocean Drive. You can stroll down Ocean Drive (you may even catch a strandy!) and watch fireworks.  Always a good mix of people on good old Ocean Drive.  This year, the popular DJ Irie will be posted up on 8th and Ocean (right in front of Wet Willies YUMMY) Drive.  Kids are welcome.
  • Flamingo Park has a nice group of people gathering.  This year a BBQ has been announced by local skin care company Elite Skin. They make many successful products, including an award-winning eye serum.  There is said to be a BBQ, DJ, and the Elite Girls dance team.
  • Key Biscayne Fourth of July Parade: Parade time in Key Biscayne this Independence Day! This Key Biscayne tradition features floats, music and fireworks. The parade begins along Crandon Boulevard at 11AM and the festivities conclude with fireworks at sunset.
  • Bayfront Park. Always a good place for the family, Bayfront Park and Bayside Mall are never a bad place to hang out.

If you are outside for long periods of time, make sure you cover yourself with the best sunblock possible.  It’s not easy avoiding a burn in the hot Miami sun.  Be careful, you don’t want to suffer from eye wrinkles later in life!
